Indiesew S/S 2017 Blog Tour - The Highlands Wrap Dress

Hope you've had a chance to see the lovely garments that have been presented on this tour 'sew' far. (SNL - you just give me a call if you need a new comedian...)
If you haven't, just follow the links to all the participants at the very bottom of this post. And if you already have visited the first 3 blogs on the tour, well - do it again. They are amazing, right?! I can't wait to see the rest.

For me it was love at first sight when Allie showed us the line drawings for her now released Highlands Wrap Dress. Yes, it's designed by no other than beautiful Allie - the co-founder of Indiesew. It's not like any wrap dress patterns I've seen before. Two lengths to choose from, short or no sleeves, an optional wide elastic at the back which provides a great fit at the waist, button/snap closures and ties. Designed for wovens. Most wrap dress patterns are designed for knits I think - so I was thrilled to learn that this one is for woven fabrics. Just freakin' awesome! Light to medium weight fabrics with a lovely drape are best for this design.

I chose to work with a wool/viscose blend from Stofdepotet. I love this outcome but I might choose a fabric with a little more drape next time I sew the Highlands Wrap Dress - a rayon/viscose, tencel or something with similar drape. And I think I might size up the bodice next time as well because I had to make some adjustments a long the way to achieve the right fit for me - and I'm thinking that some of my struggle could have been avoided had I chosen a larger size. I really should have listened to Allie's 'when in doubt make a muslin of the bodice' suggestion before cutting into my dress fabric. But, I admit it - I rarely make muslins! Lesson learned.

I truly love everything about this design. Flattering flowy skirt with side slits, the subtle blousing effect at the bodice, the sleeve options - and I definetely must make a maxi version for summer! This, dear Allie is so unique!! The weather in Denmark is not yet for bare legs, so I layered my Highlands Wrap Dress with some wide leg trousers.

Back to the 80s in crazy pants.

Crazy velvet tie front pants and a matching top and bare feet. Not a bad way to start the Easter Holidays.

The ribbed velvet is from The Sweet Mercerie. Great drape and stretch.
